Rose and I
Rose is a 15.2hh bay dun Canadian Warmblood (Hanoverian/Holsteiner/Thoroughbred) mare. She was born on May 5, 2007.
I am a sixteen year old girl who has been involved with horses since age seven. I got my first horse at age eleven - a 14.3hh liver chestnut morgan/QH pony mare named Jane. I competed in my first event with her. In November of 2012, we brought home a second horse on a free lease - Blondie. She's a 15.2hh red dun QH/Arab/Percheron mare born in 1994. Blondie is a schoolmaster when it comes to eventing (competing up to the Preliminary level in her day) and over summer of 2014, Blondie and I were a team while she showed me the ropes of the eventing world. We officially bought her after two years of free leasing, and not long after, Rose arrived.
Rose arrived at my barn on November 1, 2014 after a long horse search on my part that lasted the whole summer. Rose had had only three months previous training - spread out over two years. She barely knew how to steer and she had never cantered under-saddle. But something about her innocence stayed with me, so I told her she had a new home.
I was really excited to finally have my own partner with no past experiences to learn from and train all on my own. From the first meeting, I was impressed by her willingness to learn and her enthusiasm in every new thing I asked of her. She never gets angry or nervous, and constantly tries to figure out what I'm asking. She's incredibly happy with herself once she does.

Rose and I enjoy trail riding, dressage, jumping, and lots of groundwork and playing together. We are becoming better partners every day and starting summer of 2015, I will introduce Rose to eventing, the sport I've come to love and hope she will too.
So far, this is proving to be an amazing journey. But I'll save that for the actual blog posts.
UPDATE (June 12, 2016): After a successful first summer of eventing, in which Rose competed up to Entry level (2'9") by the end of summer 2015, now she and I are taking a break from competing. Our family bought a farm on Okanagan lake in October 2015, and we will be taking the horses (and all our other animals!) up there for the whole summer. We will be trail riding up into the mountains every day. I'm so excited to have Rose living in my backyard!!
