On Saturday, we held off going out to the barn until the afternoon because it was pouring rain the whole day and we were hoping it would stop. But the rain only slowed down a little after lunch so we decided to snag our opportunity before it started downpouring again.
I didn't even change out of my pajamas to go to the barn - I was planning to just bring Rose in, dry her off, and give her some lovin'.
So we got there and did just that. We brought the girls in from the rain, put their coolers on to wick away all the water on their fur, and put them in their stalls with some hay to munch on while we got to work cleaning out/packing up all our tack in the tack room. We figured out what we were bringing to Penticton and what we're planning to leave behind. An hour later, we were finished packing and it looked like we had half as much stuff as we started with.
The girls were dry (and having a grand old time watching us scurry around the barn packing things up) and ready to do something with us.
So even though I was in pajama pants and ill-fitting rubber boots, I just threw on Rose's saddle (with the rain cover on of course) and headed on out to the arena where my mum had set up some jumps.
Rose was very excited to jump a little bit and made some nice jumps at the end. She started out very much on her forehand but I started to correct it by doing lots of quick transitions - we'd be trotting, I'd ask for walk, then two steps later I'd ask for trot again. Same with trot - canter. This made her shift her weight backwards a little bit more.
On Sunday, we set up another jump course - this time with a two stride line across the diagonal. All the jumps were 2'-2'3" verticals and oxers, nothing fancy.
Rose had even more fun today! Despite not being very fit and out of practice. She remembered yesterday's jumping and seemed to build on it today. We ended with a little course and she did great. She even changed her lead across the diagonal two stride line. Very pleased with my girl :)
