Today was pretty awesome. Let me just mention, first, something completely unrelated: I woke up smiling this morning. I don't know why, but I must assume that I was smiling at some really happy dream that I can't seem to remember. Also later today, I saw a girl wearing a shirt that said, "you don't need a reason to smile", which got me smiling again. So I've been an energetic, happy girl all day!
I took this attitude out to the horses after school today. Although I don't think I needed any more energy! When I got there, I saw a magnificent sight. All the mares (six in total, spanning two separate fields) were galloping around with abandon. They were all completely free (and crazy!) as they ripped around the large fields, bucking, rearing, kicking out, spinning around, going sideways. It was amazing to watch. I could just feel the atmosphere: tense, but joyful. High strung and weightless. The epitome of a horse's happiness.
Blondie came up to the fence when she saw me, and I remember thinking how completely gorgeous she looked. Like an arabian stallion; necked arched, nostrils wide, and tail raised high, flowing out like a flag behind her. Her feet were somehow thunderous and dainty at the same time as she trotted, her eyes were wild. It was like she was a yearling again, with all the energy in the world. I think she felt that way.
Rose was exhibiting what a truly beautiful head she has, as she pricked her ears. I could see the muscles in her neck and shoulders; hard as rock.
Gorgeous, was all I could think. And it made me so happy that I could give my horses the space to do these things. To play and run like the evolved to do.
I didn't trust my brain to save the images I saw today, so I started drawing as soon as I got home. Just some 2-minute sketches to try and capture the energy I saw in the horse's bodies today.

Sometimes I wish I could just take a photo with my eyes.
In other news, Rose is getting very good with trailer loading. She's starting to learn how to self-load now, while I stand at the side of the trailer. She's getting over her anxiety around having people stand behind her, and she stays in the trailer and waits for me to tell her to come back out before she does.
I also have gotten her used to the sound of the clipper the past two days. She's pretty much fine with that now, thanks to clicker training! I love that little mare <3
