Hello again! I haven't written a blog post in AGES! This is all to do with school starting again. I'm realizing that they finally take kids seriously in grade 11. Which means more homework and less time with the horses.
This is just a little update post. As the days get shorter, I'm planning to get back to my frequent blog posts for the winter. Winter is the time to experiment, practice, and improve with your horse, and this blog really helps me to improve because firstly, I can just read past posts to see the improvement, and it also really helps to write everything down after a session so I can analyze and think about it more.
The past month has been pretty exciting. School started, and Rose is winding down after her success at Island 22 horse trials (more on that later). Also some big news to share! In the past month, our family has managed to buy a truck, horse trailer, and wait for it.... A FARM!!! We've all been over the moon about this.
So I've just been working with Rose to get acquainted with the new trailer (it's a straight-haul Brenderup with a ramp - something she's never seen before). We've also had a few dressage lessons with Derek Huget, which has helped Rose become more consistent and energetic in our flatwork. These lessons with stop after daylight savings time, as the day with be too short to have a comfortable lesson unless we want to ride in the dark!
I haven't ridden Rose much recently as she's developed heaves - the asthma-like infection that Blondie has at the start of the summer. Yesterday was her last day of medications and she's feeling much better. I'll see how she is after school today.
There's so much more I want to talk about but I'll have to leave it for now, as I have to get ready for school. I'm excited to be back writing and this winter will be a fun one! Planning to experiment a lot and get re-connected with Rose on the ground.
